Halters, Leads, Tethers, Stakes, and Straps

Double Stitched Nylon Halters - $10.00

Standard Colors: Royal Blue, Red, or Green with a black nose band and pole strap. Halters are also available in any of these solid colors.

S, M, L, or XL (Large fits most adult llamas)

Our halter is tough, and the nose loop stays open while the llama is being haltered. The halter can be pulled up over the muzzle without even touching the llama's nose. Also, the nose piece is designed so it stays well up near the eyes, protecting your llama from suffocation. We do not recommend adjustable nose loop halters because they collapse on the nose while haltering , and, on a short nosed llama the nose strap can flop down over the nostrils.

ABOUT HALTERING

If llamas are started out properly the old halter method works fine.  From birth they learn naturally to put their nose through the halter.  One of the things humans do to create problems with llamas is use a halter with a collapsing nose loop to halter the llama for the first time and are in too great of a hurry so when they jerk it over the llamas nose they snag the end of the muzzle and shut off their wind.  This panics the llama starts it off wanting to avoid being haltered.  If you start your llama out properly they’ll never get their nose snagged and they won’t mind being haltered from the first day.

There’s a lot of instruction as to adjusting halters and so forth but I find the adjustment in halters is quite often the problem with the halters.  If halters are made right to begin with, they need no adjustment.  With my halters, if the llama is able to chew while wearing the halter, the halter fits them.  All you have to do is make sure that nose loop gives them enough room to chew.  Other halters can be large enough to fit over the nose but the nose loop won’t be close enough to the eyes.  If the nose loop fits down on the end of the nose the halter can close off their wind and suffocate the llama. I recommend my halters because all you have to do is make sure there’s enough room for them to chew and it’s there.  You don’t have to worry about adjustments.
